Loxy’s as it’s known today, was launched back in 2011 and comes from very humble beginnings.
Back in 2009, after loving hair extensions but hating the application methods, I eventually stumbled across this unique micro weft system that involved no gluing or braiding and I fell in love with it! I coincidentally heard an ad on the radio for training which peaked my interest (which was odd given I have no formal hairdressing training!) After training in multiple application methods, and diving deep into the world of hair, I began to see clients offering a mobile service and the micro weft system.
As my clientele grew, so too did my love for hair extensions. Clients were getting the same results I was and without damage to their natural hair, or having to endure painful pulling while the extensions were installed. I was hooked!
In 2010, a ‘rent a cabin’ made all my dreams come true, and was positioned on my front lawn so that I could begin to see clients from home. After a year of working every weekend and late night I possibly could (around my 9-5 corporate job), my wonderful husband decided it was time for us to build a home studio. Thanks to the bank and my handy man, my first legitimate space was built, and I left my job to focus on hair extensions full time.
After a couple of years in my home studio, there was a clear need for me to hire some more specialised help. While I was extremely well skilled with hair extensions, I still was unable to cut/colour them which was meaning my clients were leaving without a perfectly blended head of extensions.
At this point, I made the huge leap to rent my first commercial space in Grey Lynn, Auckland. I hired my first staff member Amy, who is with team Loxy’s to this day. Amy completed our offering by being able to seamlessly cut and colour the extensions for a perfectly natural result.
One year after signing the lease in Grey Lynn, we had outgrown our humble salon!
In 2014 Loxy’s moved to Ponsonby Road, and in 2015 we opened in Wellington. Our Ponsonby Road still operates from the same spot, now with a team of 12. Our Wellington salon changed hands in April of 2018 and is now owned by one of our original team members there, Zara, who is Wellington’s exclusive stockist of our hair and method at her salon now named Z&Co.
My team make me so proud each and every day. We are a business founded on strong values and they live and breathe them daily. We have a cult like following from our loyal clients and it warms my heart to still see so many lovely faces who used to visit my home studio visiting Ponsonby regularly to this day.)
We are a speciality hair extension salon, but can also take care of all of your hairdressing needs. Book in now for a free consult and come see what Loxy’s is all about. We look forward to taking care of you!
